Well, back in 2021 Kelly’s corporate life led to a social media campaign to keep in check the toxic corporate contracts and negotiations. Kelly Bates has been working in the NBC 10 media for the past 17 years as a weather forecaster. But in August and September month Kelly took to Twitter and informed her viewers that she is no longer associated with NBC 10.
The news came to surprise a section of viewers because a generation has already watched her on the same channel for 17 years.
On being asked about the reason for ending her association with NBC 10, Kelly said it all. After announcing her departure from NBC 10 a viewer commented asking if she is going to join another channel. To which Kelly Bates replied that she had already been working with NBC 10 for around 20 years and now as a 49-year-old woman, her professional career has ended.
Kelly Bates worked vigorously for her initial 7 years after that, in the year 2004 her working hours were fixed to part-time. Even on a part-time hour, she used to get a chance to fill up the weather reports if someone was on leave or on a long vacation. But, in 2021 WJAR management proposed a contract to Kelly, which she refused straight forward.

NBC 10 WJAR gave a contract to Kelly Bates which emphasized allotting the part-time role to Kelly Bates and was similar to that of the 2004 contract. But this time the company added an hourly raised paycheck which seemed unjust to Kelly. This was the reason for Kelly to end her professional career in association with NBC 10. Also, the part-time was reduced to fewer hours of the time, earlier it was manageable but the new contract gave her comparatively fewer hours of work. This also led to financial strain on her family.
On the other hand, not much was said from the network at NBC 10. The General Manager of NBC 10, Vin Letters thanked Kelly for her dedicated work with the network and wished her luck for her future opportunities. In the tweet, he also addressed the reason for her dissociation by stating that Kelly has refused the new contract, but he didn’t inform about the proposals that appeared to be controversial from Kelly’s point of view.
Viewers Extend Support For Kelly Bates
At about the same time, a TikTok Video went viral in which Kelly Bated was spotted bursting into tears while talking about the WJAR management. This video sparked social media on fire. The viral video garnered a million views and reports in just a few hours and led to audience outrage. A lot of her appreciators started posting about NBC 10 and slashing down the WJAR network.
The viewers also launched a petition to sign which requested the WJAR to take Kelly Bates back, on board with a revived contract less aggressive in terms of the pay and shifts. The petition gained around 8,500 signatures while it was just launched. However, neither Kelly nor NBC 10 had any plans for it.

After all the debate and petition, nothing seemed to improve for Kelly, not the fans. But Kelly being polite urged her viewers not to express anger on her ex-associated channel, WJAR NBC 10. She also reasoned it smarty by elaborating that her [the problem is with the management and not the whole company. She further added that most of the people on the channel are loving and supportive.
Where is Kelly Bates from Channel NBC 10?
After getting away from NBC 10 Kelly landed a job at ABC 6 Network. The viewers were delighted to see her back on another channel. Also on 22nd December 2023, Kelly Bates took to Twitter to announce the happy news. She is now the top weather personality on the ABC 6 network.
